Some of the mission and service
projects at Crosswinds
.
Family Promise
Family Promise, a group of 16 congregations, and still growing, has joined in the struggle to bring an answer to the strife of homelessness. The Congregations rotate each week to provide the basic needs of food, shelter, and someone who cares, to families with children. The network provides the assistance for 30 to 45 days so parents in these families can concentrate on finding employment and housing and be able to take a step up in removing themselves from their situation. As the first Host Congregation to sign on, Crosswinds is fortunate to have a significant number of our members, our friends, and our youth participate in the many tasks it takes to make the weeks of serving very successful ones.
Working to Eliminate Hunger
Crosswinds supports global and regional mission through our gifts to the larger church, and support community mission programs. Desert Mission, West Side Food Bank, Paradise Valley Food Bank, and Two-Cents-a Meal projects have grown while thousands of dollars have been given, hundreds of pounds of food stuffs and clothing, not to mention the many counted and uncounted volunteer hours given this past year!We set the bar for giving higher this year than last, but never higher than next year.We are truly a church that has been richly blessed and indeed reaches out to help neighbors and friends in every corner of the world.
Christmas Angel Tree
Santa makes his list and checks it twice and he and the elves deliver the gifts and food boxes to each family, some of whom, this will be the only Christmas they will receive!Lovingly wrapped and neatly packed each gift is joyfully given to each family member with all the small and large children taking turns sitting on the jolly old elf's lap to share a story or a concern or just share some special time.We think Santa and the elves get the best gift of all when we can share this experience with each other and all the many special families. It is most evident, the caring, giving and love shared by each of the Angel Tree Givers with the abundance of gifts Crosswinds members and friends stuff Santa's Bag with!!!We really have made a lot of Christmas' brighter!
Souper Bowl
The Souper Bowl, one of the youth's mission projects,is a simple effort to "love the Lord our God ..and love our neighbors" by encouraging people to give one dollar each as they leave worship on, or near, Super Bowl Sunday. Every penny collected should be sent directly to the soup kitchen, food bank or other charity of your group's choice.
